about sna

The School Nutrition Association (SNA) is a national, nonprofit professional organization representing more than 50,000 members who provide high-quality, low-cost meals to students across the country. Recognized as the authority on school nutrition, SNA has been advancing the availability, quality and acceptance of school nutrition programs as an integral part of education since 1946.

The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) is excited to announce that it is offering 45 scholarships to the 2024 ANC in Boston, July 14- 16. A big thanks to this year’s scholarship sponsors – Accutemp Products, the J.T.M. Food Group, Super Bakery, & SNA!

Due to the record number of applications coming in, we need SNA members’ help in reviewing and scoring the applications so we can select and award scholarships by early June.

The 2024 ANC scholarship application deadline is Friday, May 10, and SNF needs 20 member volunteers to review these applications submitted by fellow SNA members. Scholarships are available to ANC First Timers and Past Attendees.

  • Estimated time required to review applications is 5 to 6 hours total over a two-week period through May 31.
  • Each volunteer will be assigned approximately 40 to 50 short scholarship applications to review.
  • Volunteers will review and score applications in Submittable, an online application platform.

Please sign up for this volunteer opportunity by Tuesday, May 14.

Each year, state associations are required to submit their annual plans of action which outline the initiative(s) the state association will undertake related to the Areas of Focus of the SNA Strategic Plan

This form must be completed and submitted by January 1, 2023. This form informs SNA of the state's activities and is a required submission for the State President to be eligible for the President’s Award Service later this year.

The President’s Award of Excellence recognizes three state presidents each year who demonstrate extraordinary leadership by successfully implementing strategies that advance school nutrition programs in their states and who made the extra effort in achieving excellence in each of SNA’s four Areas of Focus.

In order to provide equal opportunity for states of different sizes, the President’s Award of Excellence is awarded to one state president in each of the three-member divisions:

  • Small Affiliates (1-525 Member Division)
  • Medium Affiliates (526-975 Member Division)
  • Large Affiliates (976+ Member Division)

The applications (Year-End Reports) will be judged by a group of volunteers using the following criteria:

I. Voice of School Nutrition (20% of score)

  • Demonstrate successful initiatives implemented during the year that resulted in enhancing the voice of school nutrition.

II. Career Development and Growth (20% of score)

  • Demonstrate successful initiatives implemented during the year that resulted in career development and growth for members.

III. Stakeholder Community (20% of score)

  • Demonstrate successful initiatives implemented during the year that resulted in engaging the stakeholder community.

IV. Thriving Organization  (20% of score)

  • Demonstrate successful initiatives implemented during the year that resulted in building a thriving organization.

V. Membership & Professional Development Goals  (20% of score)

  • Meet or exceed a 2% increase in membership.
  • Achieve a retention rate based on the average retention rate of SNA.
  • Meet or exceed a 2% in SNA Certificate program participation.
  • Increase in SNS Credentialing.

Numerical goals (for certificate, credentialing, and membership) will be determined by SNA Headquarters at the beginning of each membership year.

The President’s Award of Excellence will be given to the state which best meets the above criteria from each membership division.
